Geno Smith, new-look Jets offense get a training camp reality check with up-and-down day

The additions of Geno Smith at quarterback and two first-round skill-position draft picks (receiver Omar Cooper Jr.and tight end Kenyon Sadiq), along with the return of Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson and four-fifths of the offensive line, have created optimism in Florham Park.Saturday afternoon, the Jets held an intrasquad scrimmage, and it looked like the same offense that has been annually one of the worst in the NFL.

Smith struggled after a solid start and his lone touchdown pass should’ve been ruled a David Bailey sack.The offensive line had issues blocking the second overall pick in April’s draft and dealing with blitzes.Penalties were a problem, especially as the hot morning wore on.Afterward, Aaron Glenn spun the first-team offense’s performance, crediting the unit with a fast start and quality finish.He thought both sides of the ball performed well.
