The Timber Fire in Monterey County expanded to 800 acres Monday, doubling its size from Sunday evening while remaining just 5% contained.The fire’s quick spread prompted the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office to issue immediate “LEAVE NOW!” evacuation orders late Sunday night for zones MRY-F026 and MRY-F027 — an area that encompasses the luxury Ventana Inn in Big Sur.Burning southeast of Loma Vista within the rugged terrain of the Los Padres National Forest, the blaze was first reported Saturday night at around 9:38 p.m., according to KSBW.Containment efforts — led by the U.S.Forest Service alongside CAL FIRE — have been severely hampered by difficult site access, heavy fuel loads, and increased evening fire activity including spotting.
