Miami, which didn’t even reach the ACC title game, got in on the strength of its Week 1 win over the Irish. Notre Dame dropped two spots in the last two weeks, even though it won its last game in blowout fashion over Stanford.Miami leapfrogged them on Sunday. On ESPN, committee chair Hunter Yurachek said that the reason Notre Dame was ranked ahead of Miami until Sunday was because the committee never compared the two directly.
It wasn’t until it dropped BYU to No.12 that the committee had to weigh the two against one another, and Miami’s head-to-head victory over Notre Dame was the deciding factor.
He didn’t answer why BYU was dropped for losing its conference championship game, but Alabama was not.
