Wild new bodycam footage captures moment cops shoot and kill gun-waving maniac on Seattle street

A pistol-waving maniac was gunned down by cops during a deadly broad-daylight confrontation on a Seattle street corner — with the deadly encounter captured on newly released bodycam footage.The dramatic shooting unfolded around 1:30 p.m.Tuesday in the Emerald City after multiple 911 calls to cops about a man strolling down the street waving a gun at passersby, police said in a news release.“Hey, you guys better send somebody quick,” one caller told the dispatcher.

“There’s a dude walking up the hill on Othello [Street] between Rainier [Avenue] — he’s walking up Othello from Rainier.“He got a gun.He’s got a gun in his hand and he’s just pointing it at everybody that drives by.”Bodycam footage from two responding officers shows the unidentified gunman walking toward cops waving the gun and ignoring repeated orders to drop it.“Drop it, drop it,” one cop yells repeatedly.

“Drop the gun!”Both officers then open fire, getting off more than two dozen shots and sending the nut to the ground.The man then sits up, waves the gun again and is shot several more times, this time staying down.“SPD rendered medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene,” the department said.Police said the officer-involved shooting will be the subject of an outside investigation by the King’s County Sheriff’s Office, in keeping with Seattle Police Department guidelines.“Compliance is always best, de-escalation is always best, sometimes you don’t have the benefit of time when someone is carrying a firearm, and they’re walking towards you, or they’re walking towards innocent people,” Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes told KOMO-TV News after the shooting.Police did not reveal if the two officers will be taken off the streets while the probe is pending....
